What is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga is not really yoga, in the bendy, stretchy kind of way. Nor is it about being humourous or jokey. There are no complicated routines to follow or special clothing to wear. Anyone who is in reasonable condition can do it, at any age and it takes about five minutes to learn the vibe.
Laughter Yoga is about using the full throttle of our diaphragm to give ourselves an amazing cardio workout. We do this by jumping around a lot and responding in a physical way to random prompts. We don’t speak, but we maintain eye contact and interact in a mostly non-tactile way. After ten minutes or so, we lose our inhibitions and it all feels very good, safe and energising. We end with a laughter lie-down, with spontaneous laughter that feels incredibly liberating.

Laughter yoga is a perfect way to laugh and get exercise at the same time. It approaches laughter as a body exercise so it’s easy to laugh even if you’re depressed or in a bad mood. . . . I’ve tried it, and it works

Andrew Weil, M.D.
I can’t think of any other mind-body technique that has caught on this way. I told [the] American Senate Committee during a hearing about healthcare reform that laughter yoga could help lower American healthcare costs.

John Cleese
Laughter connects you with people. It’s almost impossible to maintain any kind of distance or any sense of social hierarchy when you’re just howling with laughter. Laughter is a force for democracy.
